Late Spring/April 2008

Well, the rains did bring us an amazing display of wildflowers... It's hard to believe that all those seeds, dormant for so long, can suddenly transform the desert into a riot of reds, yellows, oranges, blues and purples! The fragrance of orange blossoms is everywhere and the hummingbirds can't decide which plants to visit first. We should have some great shots for the "Current Snapshots" page in the next month or so.

Speaking of great shots - We're really excited to be hosting a photography workshop with Arizona Highways' Photo Editor Jeff Kida. It's called Horses & Cowboys with Jeff Kida.  He'll be here from April 29th through May 3rd to capture (and create) classic American Ranch scenes. This workshop sold out quickly, but there's the possibility of  another one this Fall.
Presented by the Friends of Arizona Highways, you can learn more at arizonahighways.com, under the heading "photography".

The ranch horses learned a whole new way to have fun over Spring Break. Steven and seven of his friends from the Cornell Polo Team played on ranch horses and amazed everyone at how quickly the horses adapted to the game.
The latest additions to the string are two black Clydesdale mares,(sisters) who are already driving and being broke to ride. Hopefully, they'll be ready to ride next Fall.

Also new to the menagerie are two Nubian goats and a Nigerian goat. The Nubians are Pudding and Milkshake, and the Nigerian (a little boy) needs a name. Be sure to visit them in the petting zoo and let Kristin know if you have a suggestion for a name. Previous rescues by Kristin that you may remember, are orphaned calves Andy and Daisy. Andy is now 6 years old and Daisy is 2, they're living in the petting zoo and would appreciate your visits.

And finally, a word about the Message Board here on our site.  We've had lots of setbacks and challenges and continue to struggle through the nuances of the software. We had a great group of guests signed up for the original version and lost everything/everyone when the server crashed.

Now we have an updated version and we're starting over - our apologies to everyone we lost in the "crash" - we'd love to have you sign up again. Message boards are such a great way to share your thoughts and experiences. They're also a great resource for new guests with questions and concerns.

As embarrassing as it is to show our lack of message board savvy, we are committed to getting this thing up and running! We sincerely hope you'll find it useful and fun - it looks like we've finally got the kinks out of it so please give it a try. Add to one of our topics or start your own discussion!
